The Beginner’s Guide to a Digital Music Library

Gone are the days when you had to store all your music in CD form. Now you can get rid of the CDs and DVDs, and build a digital library that you can access with the click of a button. If you are planning to go digital, there are a couple of things you need to consider. They are: 1) how much time do you spend listening to music, 2) where you listen to music, and 3) what genre of music you listen to. Once you have figured these three things out, you can set out to build your digital music library.

The first step in building a digital library is getting the music, albums, and tracks into your computer. If you are using a Mac, you can use iTunes, and if you are using a Windows computer, you can use Windows Media Player. However, there are other third-party applications that you can use. But these two are the easiest to use. You can use iTunes on a Windows PC as well.

If you have lots of CDs, you might want to store your digital music on an external hard disk, because your digital library will grow over time. It’s going to take quite some time to import all your CDs into your computer or external hard disk, so you might want to do this when you have a couple of hours spare time. Depending on the number of CDs you have, you might have to stop importing it to your computer and come back again when you have time.

Once you have finished importing all your music to your computer or external hard disk, you are ready to go. With all your music digitally stored on your computer, you do not have to use your CDs anymore. A good idea would be to donate them to others. With all your music on your computer, you can create unique playlists and play your music.

David Gianulias has over 250,000 songs in his digital music library.
